Absences/Truancy School and Class Attendance Policy - Grades K-12 5-17.1

At the high school level, absences are computed for each class. A student who misses more than fifteen (15) minutes of any class will be counted absent for that class.

Reporting Absence Reason

Please report your student absence in one of the following ways:

1. Using the hyperlink, "Send Note to School" in the evening attendance AlertNow message.
2. Email htlattendance@vbschools.com with the following information in your email:
   • your student's registered first and last name,
   • date of absence,
   • reason for absence,
   • and student ID number (if available)
3. Phone call absence report must be followed up via electronic absence report or email.
4. For absence at ATC, VoTech, or Governor's School of Arts, please follow the attendance notification procedure for that respective school.

Pre-Approved Absence Request

Send the request to htlattendance@vbschools.com at least 3 school days prior to the requested absence date. Please include your student’s registered first and last name, date(s) of absence, reason for absence, and student ID number (if available) in your email.

Early Release Request

Submit an early release request form by 8:00am on the morning of, and no earlier than, the day before the requested date. Last minute requests may not be processed in a timely manner. In case of emergency, please leave a message at 757.648.5703 or 757.648.5700.

• Diploma Replacements
• Former VBCPS students or parent/guardians of students under the age of eighteen are required to complete, sign, and date the Record Release Form (transcripts). For Graduation Verification, please call 757.263.6984.
